We have a new name!

You may have noticed that our name has changed.

After various conversations and interactions with different people (both Christians and those who aren’t Christians) it had become clear that the word ‘evangelical’ was something that most people did not understand and served as a potential stumbling block to people walking through the door. Indeed, many Christians also found it difficult to correctly define what ‘evangelical’ meant.

After much prayer and discussion, and a vote of church members, Corringham Evangelical Church has changed its name to become Corringham Community Church with effect from July 2023.

We are absolutely clear as a church that changing our name does not make us any less ‘evangelical’.

Our church purpose reads as follows:

This church exists to love and worship God; to witness to our local community of the salvation of God through Christ Jesus, making disciples who are bound in unity and love, and committed to serving God, each other and those around us.

As a church we believe that the new name is consistent with such a purpose, and we continue to be active members of the Union of Evangelical Churches.
