Church Membership

Formal church membership allows believers to officially align themselves with the purpose and body of Christ in this location.  It is like becoming a member of the local church family rather than just a visitor.  This page aims to outline a brief summary of church membership at Corringham Community Church, but any further queries can be sent to us through our Contact page.

What is church membership?

While the Bible teaches that every born-again believer is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ, it is beneficial in practice to show commitment to a local church through formal membership.

Formal membership allows believers to officially align themselves with the purpose and body of Christ in this location.  It is like becoming a member of the local church family rather than just a visitor.

Why should I become a church member?

The Church is meant to be a community of believers and membership encourages that community to support one another.  By becoming a member you are showing that you are committed to God’s people in Corringham, and are committed to supporting the church leadership in the work that they undertake.

Likewise, membership shows that others are committed to you in Christian love.

Church members are eligible to attend the Annual General Meeting at which:

  • A financial report is presented;
  • An update as to progress in different areas of ministry is provided;
  • Matters referred by the Minister(s) and Deacons are discussed and voted upon, as necessary.

In all aspects of church life we desire to follow God’s will, and the above functions are important as they allow the membership to prayerfully take part in decisions that shape the direction of the church.

What is expected of a member?

A church member must be a Christian, saved by faith through Jesus Christ, and is expected to regularly attend church services and take part in corporate prayer as often as possible.  Members must live a life in full reflection of the fact that they are a Christian, continually growing in grace and a knowledge of the truth.  Members should be willing to make the necessary commitment to the church in Corringham.

Do I have to become a member?

Absolutely not – all are welcome to partake in fellowship and worship at Corringham Community Church whether a member or not.  However, we believe that it is beneficial to all concerned and should be considered in prayer.

How do I become a church member?

Should you wish to explore church membership further then please ask the Leading Minister for a copy of the ‘Local Rules and Practices’ booklet.  This booklet sets out the basis for membership at Corringham Community Church including a Doctrinal Basis and the practicalities of how the church operates.

Those applying for church membership must satisfy the Minister(s) and Deacons as to their Christian character and experience and will also be asked to give a public testimony of their salvation in a Sunday service.
